Background

   Southeast Asia Academic Mobility (SEAAM) was established on November 13, 2016, at State Islamic Institute of Manado (IAIN) by several representatives of the university from Indonesia and Malaysia. Several lecturers which were representing each university to sign the establishment of this association are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afandi Salleh and Dr. Suyatno (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin/UniSZA, Malaysia), Dr. Muttaqien and Dr. Baiq Wardhani (Airlangga University/Unair, Surabaya), Dr. Rivai Bolotio (IAIN Manado) and Dr. Ismail S. Wekke (State College for Islamic Studies/STAIN Sorong).

   SEAAM was established to address the need of expansion and stabilization of academic networks in Nusantara (Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand-Brunei-Singapore-Philippines) region. Not only strengthen the network of academic cooperation but also builds synergy of academic strength of Nusantara in this globalization era. International networking is a need for many countries because the implications of globalization in education provide various opportunities and challenges that would be more easily face together in a synergistic partnership. In a short time, this organization has members from 94 universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand.

   The form of academic mobility among SEAAM members can be student exchange, lecturer exchange, cooperation in research, organizing conference, international publication improvement, academic information exchange and community service enhancement. The existence of SEAAM is expected to meet these needs, so the benefits can be felt together. As a non-profit organization, SEAAM is also intended to give beneficial for society in Nusantara.
